Canada Party travels to centre of the Universe

Convincing Americans to think outside the border is exhausting, so the Canada Party notified Canadians from coast to coast. CBC's the Current (http://www.cbc.ca/player/Radio/ID/2280638552/) helped deliver the message.

New York, meet Canada

The Canada Party campaign train stops in NYC. Stumping at Port Washington Library, the Laughing Devil comedy club in Queens and the KGB bar in Manhattan. It only took a touch of humility, charm and lab grade ethanol to get the American chanting, Yes We Canada! BBC coverage NYC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-19594334)

Ontario Campaign Stop

The first campaign/book stop was at the Different Drummer book store in Burlington, Ontario. Seems strange that a presidential candidate is addressing Canadians first, but it is known that we beat to a different drum.

If you are a ebook user you have become a preferred Canada Party supporter. Both Kobo and iTunes released America, but Better: The Canada Party Manifesto for purchase. If you prefer the classic paper & ink form, you must wait as punishment for your lack of technological embrace

Books, books and more books

The face of the Canada Party will be on the campaign trail in June, attending Book Expo America in New York City. BEA is a gathering of publishers, booksellers, librarians and trade media. I'm certain they will be dazzled by the Canada Party sensibilities and campaign buttons.

The Canada Party Manifesto

Publisher Douglas & McIntyre will release "America, but Better: The Canada Party Manifesto" late summer 2012. America, But Better combines the doctrine of American exceptionalism with a dose of Canadian humility and common sense. Covering everything from economic policy to gay rights to water-boarding, this manifesto of the Canada Party offers a helping hand to its southern neighbors before Americans begin chanting, “Yes We Canada.”

With the US Presidential elections around the corner it was high time that a proven, objective candidate came forward to run in 2012. That's why The Canada Party is, as of today, officially declaring our candidacy for President of the United States of America. Here is our first campaign ad. CLICK HERE

GOtoGAL Season 1

The GOtoGAL team aired its final Season 1 episode "Cougar Sighting". A great year and valuable experience creating and producing Canada's first comedic-lifestyle hybrid.

Fairly Legal

Thanks to my years working at Purdy's Fisheries in my teens, I was able to channel my inner fisherman to book a small roll on a USA Network show "Fairly Legal", a legal dramedy. Nothing like playing a hairy, homophobic fisherman.

Subway & Blubber

I was pleased to book a Subway commercial only to find that the spot title had the word "Blubber" in it. I should have picked up on that when I had to pretend that a button popped off my coat and knocked off the head of snowman. Sometime a few extra pounds works in my favor.

Repeat offenders

A couple of years ago I did a Suddenlink commercial for an earlier campaign. Suddenlink, an American provider of internet and cable services, released the latest of their award winning "EASY" campaign commercials. I play a technician who helps make a young mother famous. WATCH NOW

Still the king of LUB
E
Mr. Lube has started to air their new commercials.  It may seem like a joke but if you watch carefully I show you how to keep your wrists limber and able.

FAN Page?

I wanted to do something special for my one true fan this month so I started a Facebook Fan Page called "brianMcalvert - Fan Unite!"  I'd appreciate if any of you tempted to join my page would resist so that my single, true fan can have some one on one time with it.  After all, it really is for him.

See dad, it wasn't a waste.

The small production team I'm working with has signed a 2-short deal with a very fantastic gaming company with offices in many worldly places like Oprahville (previously known as Chicago).  Shooting to begin soon.

Happy New Year!!

Screw off, I'm hung over.

Bank Commercial

If you live in BC and have ever seen the Coast Capital Bank TV commercials you know that they are pretty crafty.  Well, my dad like appearance scored me a role as the incognito, walkie-talkie communicating father trying to get some honest answers about a supposed unlimited use account. Hopefully it is funnier than that description.

06.12.10
Brian knows his lube

The first commercial I acted in was a Canadian National Commercial for Mr. Lube back in January 2009.  I play the sleazy car salesman who is selling a car to kids and trying to up-sell the "heated seats" feature.  After running it for 2 solid years they created a new spot and cast me (but mostly my mustache) as a lazy dealership mechanic.  Should start airing in January.

30.11.10
MOvember this

Whether trying to keep kids away or as just a lip cozy, mustaches have always been a favourite of mine.  And only once a year are men free from the female nagging machine (a.k.a. sweetheart) and have an indisputable reason to grow them.   I take this opportunity to personally thank prostate cancer.  If it wasn't for you and some drunk Aussie who invented MOvember, lip baldness would continue and nobody would point at me from afar.

Work, Work

New opportunities to work the creative muscle for an actual client have proven that the last 3+ years of my life have equipped me with applicable skills for the new media world.  Just completed the draft edit of the first episode of a proof of concept campaign for an advertising company in town.   Will keep you posted.  That wasn't very funny was it?

19.11.10
The BUSY SIGNAL

A comedy show I put together to work some stand-up, play with live sketch, and screen some new video sketch.  The show also featured Beth Garner, an actress and fellow ginger who read deliciously rotten passages from a book entitled "Eat, Prey, Love".   Yes, "Prey" is the correct spelling.    Ran for 2 nights at The Tipper Review Room.  Some videos to come.

Wedding Bliss

Who said eHarmony is for suckers?  My good friends Ian & Jeanie met on eHarmony in December 2008 and were married August 2010.  For their super-sized Vancouver reception 2 weeks ago I produced a parody eHarmony commercial to confuse and entertain their guests.

Vancouver Asian Film Festival
The 2010 VAFF organizers ran a 30sec, on-line, commercial contest and I couldn't resist the opportunity to perpetuate Asian stereotypes.  If you read this before Oct 30, go to this link and "LIKE" the video.  Viewers choice winner is shown on TV.
